Although the forecast for a rain-free day was not good on Sunday, August 28th, drops from the sky came and went prior to game time and a good time was had by everyone in attendance at the Reading Phillies game during a Juniata College alumni event in the Reading area. A total of 21 alumni, family and friends gathered in the reserved-seat section just to the left of home plate and watched the Phillies post a 3-0 victory over the Bowie Baysox during the final home game of the year for the hosts.

Alumni from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s were in attendance for the event! Stephen Svarczkopf won an autographed Reading Phillies baseball as part of the day and everyone else stayed dry and the rain held off for the rest of the day. Five new automobiles were given away by sponsors of the Reading Phillies to close the day, but, unfortunately, no one from the Juniata group was lucky enough to walk away with a brand new ride.

Reading pitcher Josue Matos dominated through eight innings at FirstEnergy Stadium. Matos (3-1) yielded just four hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter in his longest outing this season. Philip Devey walked two in the ninth before Ryan Cameron fanned three in a row to earn his 17th save. Chris Roberson, who set the single-season hit record for the Phillies during the contest, and Randy Ruiz had RBI singles and Juan Richardson lined his 14th homer to left in the sixth as the Phillies avoided a three-game sweep.
