Juniata Job Shadow Program

Local alumni, parents, family and friends of the College gathered with currents students in the Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Harrisburg areas on Mar. 25 to launch the 2007 Juniata Job Shadow program. Now in its sixth year, the program originated in D.C. as an opportunity for students to network with alumni and explore possible careers. It has expanded to other regions and now includes parents and friends as volunteer hosts.

The shadow program relies on the generosity of volunteers. Some of these gracious alumni and friends organized kick-off events in each area and others served as shadow hosts, offering dinner and housing on Sunday night before taking their students to work with them on Monday.

The JC-DC Alumni Club continued the tradition of combining the job shadow kick-off with its annual spring meeting. More than 60 alumni, parents, family, friends and students gathered at the home of Jodie (Monger) '88 and Mark Gray in McLean, VA. After feasting on the delicious food prepared by Jodie's sister Janice, guests gathered and were introduced to the six student participants and three students who were unable to shadow on Monday, but chose to attend the event. David Corman '77, president of the club, Jodie (Monger) Gray '88, College Trustee and host, as well as David Meadows '98, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, gave an update on what is happening at Juniata and in the club.

The CPA Juniata Club took its first stab at implementing the Job Shadow program and the result was a success. Leading the charge was the Class of 1994 as three members were responsible for organizing and hosting the gathering. Jennifer (Chieppa) and Adam Metz opened their home to 14 guests, while Curtis Fenstermacher, current Alumni Council member, chaired the coordination team in the Central PA area. His efforts in securing hosts helped to connect five current students with engaged alumni in the region. Students met their hosts during the day, enjoyed delicious appetizers compliments of Curtis, Jen and Adam and listened to a Juniata update from Director of Alumni Relations Bub Parker ’91.

The Delaware Valley Alumni Club departed from its traditional house gathering to meet at the offices of Gift of Life Donor Program in Philadelphia. Howard Nathan '75, president and CEO of Gift of Life, served as a generous host and treated 20 guests to a lovely reception. Along with three student participants, the College was represented by Provost James Lakso, Erik Evans, Associate Vice President for Advancement, and Dr. Dave Drews, Professor Emeritus.

Special thanks to Jennifer (Chieppa) '94 and Adam '94 Metz, Jodie (Monger) Gray '88, and Howard Nathan '75 for hosting three wonderful kick-off events!

Our deepest gratitude to Job Shadow Coordinators Curtis Fenstermacher '94, Dan O'Sullivan '64, Keith Hartman '77, Lisa Meyers '81, and Lisa Jenkins '90!
