Alumni Weekend 2007 set a new record for attendance with more than 700 alumni, parents, family and friends of the College making the journey back to Juniata. A brief thunderstorm on Friday evening gave way to more beautiful weather, allowing participants to enjoy outside activities such as the annual golf outing, tie dying, building and launching soda bottle rockets, campus tours, and picnic lunch.
The classes of ’57, ’62, ’67, ’72, ’77, ’82, ’87, ’92 and Emeriti (1956 and lower) celebrated reunions and more than 150 singers gathered for the 75th Anniversary Choir Reunion. There were also many non-reunion alumni on campus. The Class of 1957 redefined success for its 50th with 48 members returning and having raised a record-setting $250,000 to name the new Founders Hall Bell Tower as their Class Gift.
Festivities of the weekend included the Alumni College; Friday’s All-Class Dinner during which Don and Lois (Mezey) Murdoch ’57 delivered the message; individual class and choir reunion dinners on Saturday; a special concert given by the 75th Anniversary Choir; and the Alumni Assembly recognizing reunion classes and honoring five alumni for their service and achievements (Henry Gibbel ’57 - Alumni Achievement Award, William Alexander ’66 - Harold B. Brumbaugh ’33 Alumni Service Award, Christopher Bush ’92 - Young Alumni Achievement Award, Mark Sloan ’89 - William E. Swigart, Jr. ’37 Humanitarian Award and Steven McElroy ’95 – Health Professions Alumni Appreciation Award). More.
Special thanks to all of the volunteers from reunion classes and the choir, as well as all of the Juniata College staff who volunteered their time to help make Alumni Weekend memorable!
