The weather and the visiting Nationals attempted to put a damper on the 15th annual Baltimore Orioles Alumni Event at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Sunday, June 25th, but both failed as a great time was had by all 73 in attendance. Included in the day was a picnic that was supposed to be in the bullpen area of the stadium, but Mother Nature forced a change of plans and the picnic was moved under the left field bleachers. In addition, four other lunch parties were moved to the same area, so there was a sea of humanity gathered for a picnic. However, Juniata College alumni, family and friends made the best of the situation and enjoyed the time to socialize and eat a delicious lunch.
Following the picnic, those in attendance made their way to their seats with many expecting a rainout. Fortunately, the rain held off until the game, a 9-5 win for Washington, was complete.
A four-run fifth inning by the Nationals made the difference as Baltimore starting pitcher Daniel Cabrera lasted just 4 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on five hits and five walks.
A total of 27,680 fans were in attendance for the contest.
The decades of the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s were all represented on the day. Richard Frick ’47 was the veteran among the group.
