Central PA Family Club Traditional Summer Outing

The Central PA (CPA) Juniata Club had a wonderful bright sunny day for their 2007 Traditional Summer Outing. The group attended the Harrisburg Senators baseball game against the Altoona Curve on Sunday, July 22.

Keith Hartman ’77, President of CPA, greeted 20 alumni and their guests as they arrived at the ballpark. Attendees walked away from the sign-in table with many goodies in hand – reserved seat tickets in the shaded area behind home plate, JC mementos, JC raffle tickets, Senators raffle tickets and even $8 in Senators bucks for food and drink.

As Keith “worked” the welcome table he was amazed at the number of people from the general public who saw the Juniata banner and stoped by to ask about Juniata – two were even interested in admission information for students entering their senior year in high school. So, the event quickly became a public relations event too, as Keith spread the word about the benefits of a Juniata education.

The family-friendly environment provided an afternoon of entertainment enjoyed by young alums from the 90s and the 00s and the older generations of the 60s and 70s, along with some future Juniatians - kids and grandkids. A current Juniata student who is working at Commerce Park for the summer stopped by to say hi too!

Unfortunately, no matter how hard the crowd cheered for the Senators, the Altoona Curve was in control and won the game 9 – 2. The Senators did provide some excitement, however, scoring both their runs on home runs.

Many attendees left as winners. Not only were several Juniata caps, shirts and mugs raffled off, also a Senators representative joined the group and raffled off Senators tickets, shirts and caps.

Yes, everyone had a great time! Maybe the group will return to City Inland next year for another Senators game.

Special thanks to Kathy Salmon ’67 for organizing this event!
