CLARION, Pa. -- Juniata College outside hitters Amy Miller (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) put down seven and nine kills respectively as Juniata hung a 3-0 loss on Division II Clarion University, Tuesday night at Tippin Gymnasium.
Juniata (5-2) hit .124 for the match while holding Clarion to a .041 attack percentage, and turned up 58 digs to Clarion's 48. Senior libero Libby Morrison (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) sprawled for 19 of those digs, while Miller, the reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Week, had 14.
Miller and Morrison were also among four players who each recorded one service ace, joining setter Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) and middle Christine Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson).
Greenberg recorded 28 assists while running the Juniata offense.
Sumner and middle Ashley Schnader (Reinholds, Pa./Garden Spot) each had six kills, but Schnader was Juniata's most efficient hitter on the night, continuing her strong play from last weekend. She committed just one error on 17 swings for a .294 hitting percentage on Tuesday against Clarion; over the last four matches and 11 sets played, Schnader had recorded just two attack errors against 28 kills with a .509 attack percentage.
Clarion (4-5) did hold an advantage in blocks, as the Golden Eagles out-blocked Juniata 10.0 to 2.0. Clarion outside hitter Hannah Heeter had a hand in five of those blocks, to go with her team-high eight kills on her way to a match-high 11.5 points. Pin hitters Kaitlyn Anderson and Kellie Bartman each added seven terminations.
Juniata heads west this weekend to compete in the Colorado College Invitational. The Eagles will take on No. 12 Colorado College on Friday night, followed by matches against No. 15 Concordia-Moorhead and No. 2 Washington-St. Louis on Saturday.
