(Posted September 19, 2009)
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- A five-point performance by Juniata's Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro), including the game-winning goal with under 10 minutes to play, helped spark Juniata College field hockey to a 4-2 win over Delaware Valley College, Saturday afternoon in Doylestown, Pa.
Price potted the game-winner with 7:34 remaining in regulation, with an assist from Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), to break a 2-2 tie. Price then set-up an insurance goal by Brittany Kaufman (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) barely five minutes later, giving the Eagles a two-goal cushion heading down the stretch.
Price opened the scoring in the contest, scoring an unassisted goal just after the nine minute mark of the contest.
Del Val (4-3) knotted the game at 1-1 with 12:36 remaining in the first half on a penalty stroke goal by Bethany Pavlik. Amrod answered with an unassisted goal for Juniata with 9:55 showing on the first half clock, sending the Eagles into the intermission with a 2-1 advantage.
Juniata (5-2) held the lead for much of the second half, until the Aggies' Danielle Hayes tied the contest with 13:18 remaining in the second half off an assist from Holly Rich.
Juniata outshot Delaware Valley 18-6, with Aggies goalie Hollis Hancock kept active by making 10 saves in the Delaware Valley cage. Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) made three stops in the Juniata goal. The Eagles also enjoyed a 15-10 advantage in penalty corners.
The Eagles play at home for the first time in nearly two weeks when they host Dickinson College on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m. on Winton Hill Field.
