Two Juniata athletic department staff members promoted to Assistant A.D.
(Posted July 15, 2009)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Two members of the Juniata College Athletic Department have been promoted to assistant athletic director with additional responsibilities, as part of a department reorganization announced today by Larry Bock, Juniata's athletics director.
Pete Lefresne, Juniata's sports information director, has been named assistant athletic director for External Relations, while Scott McKenzie, head women's soccer coach and director of soccer at Juniata, has been named an assistant director of athletics.
"I'm pleased that Scott and Pete have accepted these new roles within our department," said Bock. "Both have been serving in a leadership capacity within Juniata athletics for quite some time, and these moves, in many ways, merely serve to confirm that fact. Having Scott and Pete take on these additional duties will allow our department to operate more effectively with much better oversight in key areas."
McKenzie will assume responsibility for Juniata's NCAA compliance program, while continuing in his role as head women's soccer coach. He will also continue to have administrative oversight of the Juniata men's soccer program, and will supervise Juniata's intramural programs, coordinate scheduling of outdoor facilities, and serve as the department's liaison with club sports teams.
McKenzie recently completed his ninth season at the helm of the Juniata women's soccer program, with a record of 64-85-12. He has guided Eagle women's soccer into the Landmark Conference Tournament in each of the past two seasons, including an ECAC Division III South Region Tournament berth in 2007. A 1984 graduate of the State University of New York College at Brockport, McKenzie currently serves as chair of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee.
Lefresne will continue to direct Juniata's Sports Information Office, with additional responsibilities supervising all event management and operations activities for the department. He will also serve as primary event management contact for all post-season athletic events hosted by Juniata College, and will provide administrative oversight for the Juniata softball program. He will also continue to serve as the department liaison to the college's advancement and marketing offices.
Lefresne recently completed his second year as a member of Juniata's athletic department, during which he introduced a new athletics website, worked with Juniata's Communications & Marketing staff on a visual rebranding for Juniata athletics, and led an improvement in the department's publications program. A 1993 graduate of Old Dominion University, he previously worked in the sports information offices at Virginia Military Institute, Old Dominion, and The University of Maine (Orono), and also served in university relations capacities at the University of Maine at Machias and Canada's Algoma University.
Completing the department's reorganization, Greg Curley, assistant athletic director and head men's basketball coach, will assume new duties as the athletic department liaison to the college's Enrollment Committee. He will continue to serve as a member of Juniata's Budget Committee, and will coordinate facility operations in the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center. He previously served as the department's NCAA compliance coordinator.
