Juniata Choral Union to Perform Christmas Concert

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Choral Union and guest ensemble Centre Brass will perform "Christmas Cantata and Carols from Around the World" at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 in Rosenberger Auditorium in Oller Hall on the Juniata campus.
Admission for the concert is $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the information desk in Ellis College Center or at the door on the night of the performance. For tickets or other information, call (814) 641-3333.
Russell Shelley, Juniata College assistant professor of music and chair of the music department, will conduct the ensemble.
The program will open with several Christmas carols, including "Angelus ad Virginem," a 14th-century Irish carol, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Sussex Carol," a traditional English holiday song.
The ensemble will perform Daniel Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata," a three-movement cantata, and finish the concert with more carols, including ""Ding Dong! Merrily on High," "I Saw Three Ships" and "Joy to the World."
The Choral Union is the largest choral ensemble at Juniata with a student membership of more than 90 and more than 50 members from communities in the Huntingdon area. The Juniata Choral Union traditionally performs larger choral works.
The Centre Brass, which will perform throughout the entire concert, is comprised of: Herb McKinstry and Kelly Howdyshell, trumpets; Jaime Thorne, horn; Susan McKinstry, euphonium; and Ivan Giddings, tuba. Stephen Baird is the Choral Union accompanist.
