Juniata 3, Capital 0 Juniata 3, Carnegie Mellon 0 Cincinnati, Ohio ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team tinkered with some different offensive strategies as well as some lineup changes on the first day of competition at the Mount Saint Joseph Invitational Friday, but the results remained the same as the Eagles earned 3-0 victories over Capital and Carnegie Mellon to improve to 7-0 on the season. Utilizing a 6-2 setting formation that allowed the team to put some players in different positions, the Eagles turned in a 30-21, 30-24, 30-24 victory over Capital. The new alignment helped with the team?s blocking in particular as Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) and Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) recorded six and five blocks respectively. Amber Thomas (Conestoga Valley/Ephrata) led the offensive attack for the Eagles as she finished with 10 kills. Schatz added nine finishes to go with her five blocks. Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) and Beth Kozak (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) split the setting duties in the contest, while Kozak did produce three serve aces. Megan Sollenberger (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) finished with a team-high 18 digs. In match two against Carnegie Mellon, the Eagles went with a different lineup but came away with similar results as they claimed a 30-26, 30-28, 30-17 victory. Kines and Cassie Dickmann (Unionville/Kennett Square) were the top attackers in the match as each finished with nine kills. Dickmann also recorded two blocks in the match. Brittany Carr (Titusville/Titusville) enjoyed a strong all-around match as she knocked out six kills, while adding five aces and a team-best 18 digs. Sollenberger added another 16 digs for Juniata in the nightcap. The Blue and Gold will complete play at the two-day event on Saturday as the Eagles take on Whitman and host Mount Saint Joseph. ###
