International Education and Visa Services Assistant

Primary Role

Provides administrative support functions for the Assistant Dean (International Student and Scholar Services) and the Study Abroad Director in the Center for International Education. 


Typical Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assists with immigration services for nonimmigrant students, employees / scholars including maintaining current and accurate information on Department of Homeland Security regulations and procedures. 

2. Acts as liaison between Office of Human Resources, Payroll and the Center for International Education on employee / scholar visa support issues. 

3. Serve as the Designated School Official for F-1 nonimmigrant students and Alternate Responsible Officer for J-1 nonimmigrant students. 

4. Maintains international employee files and Department of Labor audit files

5. Track and maintain incoming international student and study abroad applicant files.   

6. Enter new international student information in campus Datatel system and coordinate with appropriate on-campus offices to incept new students (Registrar, Residential Life, Academic Support Services, etc.). 

7. Assist with pre-arrival planning and communication (including acceptance packet mailings) with new international students.

8. Assist with pre-departure planning and communication with study abroad students, including maintaining current and accurate information on US State Department procedures and visa application processes.   

9. Assists with developing and maintaining pre-departure planning information on the web for study abroad students including program dates, appropriate institutional and country resources, etc. in conjunction with the Study Abroad Director. 

10. Coordinating pre-departure orientation for study abroad and international student orientation. 

11.  Responsible for regular maintenance of the Center for International Education web site including study abroad, international student, and Intensive English Program pages. 

12. Other duties as assigned in support of the Assistant Dean and Director of Study Abroad. 


Supervision Required/Given

Works with considerable independence.  Must work collaboratively with diverse individuals, including faculty and other groups.
