For at least six hours after vomiting has stopped, it is best to give the stomach a rest. Following a period of 1 or 2 hours you can try popsicles, ice chips or sips of clear liquid.
After six hours, gradually increase clear liquids. A sip of two every ten minutes is a good way to start. You can try water, 7-Up, Kool-Aid, Gatorade, bouillon, or clear-base broth from a non-greasy soup. A good rule to remember for clear liquids - if you can't see through it, it isn't clear.
After 24 hours, begin to add easily digested food and juices, such as bananas, rice, toast, applesauce, clear soups, plain pasta, rice cakes, saltines, and fruit or vegetable juice.
By the third day, progress to a "regular diet" by adding such things as soft-cooked eggs, stewed fruit, cooked vegetables, and white meat chicken or turkey. The last things to add are dairy products, spicy foods or anything containing caffeine.
For Nausea and Vomiting accompanied by Diarrhea:
Follow the previous recommendations EXCEPT do not add fruit or vegetable juice on the second day. Try a small banana or some applesauce instead.
