Internship Title: Business Development and KIZ Intern

Why did you choose JCEL/HCBI as your internship?

I chose JCEL/HCBI as my internship location for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to take advantage of the fact that JCEL/HCBI has a good relationship and works closely with Juniata College. I really enjoyed seeing the support the two had for each other. I also wanted to be a part of a company that worked to make Huntingdon, my home town, a better place to live and to visit.

How did you hear about the internship opportunity at JCEL/HCBI?

I heard about the internship opportunity at JCEL/HCBI from Professor Donaldson, who also is my academic advisor.

What skills did you acquire at JCEL/HCBI that transferred into post graduation jobs, class work, and additional internships?

I acquired many skills from technical to personal from interning at JCEL/HCBI. Specifically, my communication skills both on the phone and face-to-face vastly improved. I am much more confident in myself to take on challenging projects from my bosses. My computer skills greatly increased and expanded. In the classroom, I am now able to offer real-life examples during discussions, which my professors really appreciate.

Do you feel the internship was beneficial? Why?

Yes, interning at JCEL/HCBI has taught me more than I ever imagined possible. I feel privileged to have had the chance to be a part of a great group of people who work so hard every day to make Huntingdon County the best that it can be. I will and have already used the knowledge and tools I have gained from my experience to succeed in all of my future endeavors. I feel confident that what I have learned at JCEL/HCBI will make me a better student and future employee.

What was your favorite/specific project you worked on during your time here?

My favorite project that I worked on was being a part of the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) expansion and tax credit reconstruction. I enjoyed getting to know the company owners and everything they go through to make their companies successful in Huntingdon County. I also really enjoyed the Huntingdon County video contest. It was great to see the project from start to finish resulting in something fun and fresh for the county to enjoy.

Have you obtained other internships? If so, did your internship at JCEL assist you in the skills necessary for another internship?

I have not obtained any other internship since. I have studied abroad in London since my internship, and it not only helped me get approved for that, but also helped me in classes and in everyday experiences while I was there.

Any additional Information?

Aside from learning and growing so much, the atmosphere in the office is so much fun! I made lasting friendships and relationships with co-workers and bosses that will continue to grow with time.
