Regional Information

The state of Guanajuato is located almost in the middle of Mexico, so travelling is a little easier because it’s in the center of everything. The city of Guanajuato is very desert-like. It isn’t very green, and is a lot drier than Pennsylvania. The summers are hot and the winters are cold (though not like here) because there’s no heating. The rainy season starts around May and lasts through July or August. Other than that it barely ever rains and is almost always sunny. It is also a very important city historically because it played a large part in the Mexican War of Independence.

Guanajuato is a small, safe city with city buses, taxis, and inter-city/state buses, too. Most people walk everywhere in the city because everything is so close, but you can easily use the buses. They’re very cheap.

Guanajuato’s economy revolves around mining, and you can visit the mines while you’re there. Every year a festival called the Cervantino happens in Guanajuato, where dancing and performing groups from all over the world come and perform, many times for free. It’s a city-wide festival and very fun! Guanajuato's beautiful colonial appearance makes it popular with tourists both from other parts of Mexico, and from other parts of the world. There’s always some event going on in Guanajuato!
